Support the Buddy Project

Published On: Sep 23 2013 07:43:54 AM CDT

The results of a new research study will likely surprise no one. Bullied kids show an increase in psychosomatic symptoms. In other words physical illnesses causes or spurred by mental anguish. Yes, it’s that bad.

Symptoms include unusual headaches, abdominal pain, sleeping problems, even bed-wetting.

The same CBS News story cited an earlier study that estimated 20 percent of U.S. high school students have been bullied, as had 63 percent of kids with autism spectrum disorder.

WISC-TV and our Time for Kids partner Dean Clinic have extended our Be A Buddy anti-bulling project so we can continue to spread the word about the effects of bullying and how we can stop it.

One way we’re doing that is asking kids to take the pledge to stand up against bullying in your community, and if you do Dean Clinic will send you wristbands to prove it. We’ve sent out close to 50,000 already.

Bullying is serious stuff. So is our commitment to fight it. Take the pledge. Get a bracelet. And be a buddy, not a bully.
