Shirley Ann Pittman

MADISON-Shirley Ann Pittman, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, after a long illness with COPD.

She was surrounded in her final days by her loving husband and children.

Shirley was born on Dec. 22, 1934, in Madison, the daughter of Edward and Myrtle (Helman) Schnurbusch. While growing up on the east side of Madison she loved swimming and ice skating at Tenney Park. Shirley attended Madison East High School. She met and married Eugene “Gene” Pittman, and raised four loving children. Shirley was a homemaker and stay at home mom. Her family was the center of her life. She enjoyed working at Arlan’s department store in Madison for a few years. Shirley loved yearly family vacations in northern Wisconsin and Fox Lake. Some of Shirley’s passions were knitting, canning and reading mystery novels. Her favorite author was James Patterson. She enjoyed watching girl’s high school basketball every year. Shirley loved birds, especially cardinals and she loved to hear them sing. She received many cardinal collectibles over the years.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Eugene; her children, Pamela (David) Schulte, Lori (Robert) Prince, David (Cindy) Pittman and Gregg (Amie) Pittman; her grandchildren, Heather, Mike, Mark, Michelle, Deb, April, Natalie and Faye; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters, Patricia Sanner and Diane Seymour; and a brother, Thomas Rendall. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin daughters; step-father, Thomas Rendall; and a sister, Donna Brey.

Funeral services will be on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Noon at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr. with Chris Sanner presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday at 10:00 am until the times of service at the funeral home.

Many thanks to the staff at the Don and Marilyn Hospice Center for making Shirley comfortable. We would especially like to thank Sharon, a special nurse. We will truly miss you! Your loving spirit will always be remembered.
