Ronald Elsner

Ronald G. Elsner, age 78, of Verona, WI passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the New Glarus Home. 

He was born on August 4, 1934 to his parents William and Agnes (Anderson) Elsner.  Ron graduated from Belleville High School.  In 1954 he was united in marriage to Arlene LaPorte.  From 1956 to 1958 Ron served in the United States Army.  Later in 1974 he married Patricia Coughlin.  Ron worked at Federal Industries in Belleville for many years until retiring.  He was a member of the Verona American Legion Post #385.  Ron enjoyed auto racing and had raced stock cars at Sam’s Capital Speedway.

Ron is survived by his sons John (Marcia) Elsner of Brodhead, WI and Paul (Betsy) Elsner of New Glarus, daughters Dawn Banovez of Kenosha, WI and Angela Donovan of Hazel Green, WI, step-son Randy (Tina) Krause of Marshall, WI,  grandchildren, Jason (Mary) Elsner, and Zach Elsner; Mitch Elsner, Kiya Keohn, Richard, Anthony, David, Jacob, Adam, and Cassidy Donovan, fifteen great-grandchildren, step grandchildren Rebecca, Lauren, and Jordan Krause; Jamie Krause, Raven Oxenreider and Brandi Krause, and six step-great grandchildren.  He is further survived by a brother William (Jupe) Elsner of Belleville, WI, sisters-in-law Marilyn Elsner of Black River Falls, WI, Betty Elsner of Stoughton, WI, Jean (Toby) Fillner of Sun Prairie, WI, and Nancy (Gilbert) Fagan of Marshall, WI, brother-in-law Dale (Cora Lee) Coughlin of Marshall, WI, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pat, brothers Maynard, Emmett, and Robert, a sister Sylvia Pishion, grandchildren Destiny Wirth and John Thomas “JT” Elsner, and a step-son Ronald J. Krause.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.

Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to time of service on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested.

  • PHOTOS: Madison store helps collect hundreds of Teddy bears for police

    MADISON, Wis.--A west Madison store is part of an effort to collect hundreds of stuffed animals to donate to six police departments in Southern Wisconsin.

    Todd Merryfield, owner of The Learning Shop at 714 S. Gammon Road, said the store is collecting the bears for officers who use them to help comfort children with whom police come in contact.

    "This is a great way to support what (police) do," Merryfield said. "Those are the kids that need something like this to reassure them, calm them down, and let them know that things are all right."

    Nearly 500 plush animals were donated Tuesday, a Learning Shop spokeswoman said. The Madison store's effort is part of a larger initiative through the Bears for Humanity organization.
