Marian Tainter

Marian Tainter passed away peacefully at the age of 80 at her daughter's home in Westby, WI on September 25, 2013. She was born in Vernon County, WI on January 26, 1933 to Julius and Alvia (Tyvand) Slette. She married Keith Tainter on June 27, 1953. Marian was a faithful and active member of North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and was a member of Norseland Auxiliary and the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing cards, coffee outings with friends, her employment at IGA, and life in general. For all of us who knew her, she was undoubtedly someone you could always count on.

Marian is survived by her husband, Keith; daughter, Terrie (Arne) Haugen and their daughter, Anne Haugen; son, Jeff and his children, Krista (Matthew) Joyce, Kyle and Karlee Tainter; son, Mark (Kim) and their sons, Matthew (Kristi) and Craig; Lorie's children, Curt Stakston and Destinie Brown; daughter, Julie Johnson and her children, Jay, Andy (Whitney) and Abby; daughter, Mary Holte and her children, Leah (Patrick) Fanella, Brett and Kylee Holte; 7 great-grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter; 2 sisters, Addy (Greg) Nelson and LouAnn (Fritz) Engh; 2 brothers-in-law, Ken (Darlene) and Larry (Debbie); 2 sisters-in-law, Betty (Kenneth) and Bonney (Donald); several special nephews and nieces; and 3 very special friends, Betty Ann Burns, Chris Treleven and Jan Garkey.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Alvia; Keith's parents, Zilmer and Mabel Tainter; sister, Eldoris Melby; brothers-in-law, Ted Dreves and Ralph Melby; daughter, Lorie Brown; grandson, Erik Haugen; and granddaughter, Alycia Brown.

Marian was a loving and devoted wife, mom, sister, grandma, aunt and friend, and she will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Cashton. Pastor John Stennes-Spidahl will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Monday after 10:00 a.m.

The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.

  • PHOTOS: 27 tons of documents destroyed during BBB Shredfest 2016

    The free BBB Shredfest event Saturday offered anyone with documents containing personal information to shred up to three bags. Destroying documents is one way to protect one's identity and thwart fraudsters.

    More than 1,600 cars stopped by two Madison locations from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, and 27 tons of documents were shredded, a Better Business Bureau representative said. The sites were at SVA Certified Public Accountants, 1221 John Q Hammons Dr. and Warner Park, 2930 N. Sherman Ave.

    PHOTOS: Thousands take part in 34th annual CrazyLegs 2016

    The 34th annual CrazyLegs Classic 8K Run and 2-mile Walk Saturday raised money for UW Athletics. As of Friday night, 13,000 people had signed up to participate, and organizers expected more to register Saturday morning before the race begins in waves at 11 a.m.

    WINNERS: Pat Jenkins, 24, of Cambridge, is the top finisher in the men's category. UW law student Jessa Hackman, 24, of Madison, is the top female finisher.
