COTTAGE GROVE - Lucille "Sue" Pearl Stadler (nee Eckert), age 89, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2013.

She was born on July 17, 1923, in Fish Creek in Door County, the daughter of Henry and Bertha Eckert (Seiler). She married the love of her life, Donald Stadler, of Milwaukee, on January 29, 1949, in Milwaukee. She was always known as "Sue" by those who knew her, and "Oodoo" to her family.

Sue's greatest joy and love was her family. She was an extraordinarily caring and a giving mother, wife and friend. Always calm, centered and peaceful, she invariably saw the good in everyone and everything. She had a gift for enjoying the beauty of nature, she was creative and had a wonderful sense of humor. She attended Miss Brown's School of Business in Milwaukee, and loved her work as a secretary at the Milwaukee Public Schools Central Office. Working there 22 years, she served in the divisions of recreation, social studies and English.

Sue is survived by her children, Caryn (Allen) Schmidt of Cottage Grove, Donald Jr. (Kathy) Stadler of Neosho, and Christine Stadler (John Niffenegger) of West Allis; seven grandchildren, Shannon, DeAnn (Roger), Steven (Kate), Branden, Peter (Bethany), Katrina, Nathan (Meagan); six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kristen, Kyle, Cameron, Kallie, and Sophia; one great-great grandchild, Aiden; and other relatives and friends. She is also survived by three siblings, Evelyn Schoeneich of Milwaukee, Carl (Joan) Eckert of Fish Creek, and Henry Eckert of Sister Bay; along with many beloved nieces and nephews; and her very close friend, Dick Niesen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; and a great-grandchild, Deaven. A private family celebration of her life will be held at LUTHER MANOR in Milwaukee, on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Many thanks go to the caregivers at UW Hospital, and special thanks go to the loving care Sue received for two years at the Aster Assisted Living Center in Cottage Grove. Memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
