MADISON-Kathy Emmerton, age 57, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at her home.

She was born on May 24, 1956, in Madison, the daughter of Roger and Marie Yelk of Sun Prairie. Kathy attended Sacred Hearts Elementary School and Sun Prairie High School. She then attended Madison Area Technical College, receiving a degree in accounting in 1976. Kathy was employed by the State of Wisconsin for 35 years. She started as an Account Examiner for the Bureau of Child Support in Feb. 1978. Since April 1998 she has been Health Care Program Manager for The Estate Recovery Program in the Division of Health Care Financing.

Kathy enjoyed all things Wisconsin including the Haag cottage near Presque Isle, euchre (boys against the girls), the Packers, Brewers, and season tickets for Badger Football and Basketball. She especially enjoyed the spring of the year because it was time to plant lots of flowers in her front yard.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Richard of Monona; children, Brittany (Jesse) Zellmer of De Pere, and Ryan (Gwen) Bailey of Madison; two grandchildren, Kendall and Claire Zellmer of De Pere; siblings, Claudia (Robert) Quick, Eloise (Philip) Chauvin, Martha (Bruce) Brantmeier, Beverly (Thomas) Konkol, Patrick (Susan) Yelk, and Thomas Yelk; and by many nieces and nephews; uncle, Joseph Yelk; aunt, Jeanette Ebert; and numerous cousins. Kathy will be greatly missed by her step daughter Kris Haag, her husband Dan and their children Austin and Annie. We will forever miss Kathy’s love of life and radiant smile.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 5101 Schofield Street, Monona, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, with Father John Silba presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, and also at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday.
