Katherine R. Schimek

Katherine R. Schimek, age 100, of Footville, died on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Manor, Footville. She was born in Ironwood, Michigan on Nov. 18, 1912, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Bonaza) Braun. She married Edward Schimek in Ironwood, MI on June 12, 1937, and he preceded her in death in Dec. of 1991. Katherine was a member of Mother of Good Counsel Church, Milwaukee, a member of the Christian Women's, and was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine A. (John) Janes of Janesville; a son-in-law, Donald Nowak of Milwaukee; 6 grandchildren:, Jean Ann (Gregg) Burkhard of LaCrosse, Judith (Jim) Okupniak of Oxford, Jennifer (Craig) Crosby of Milwaukee, Jill (Jeff Murray) Binninger of Milwaukee and Joseph (Mariela Nunez-Janes) Janes of Denton, TX, Julie Janes of Milwaukee; and great grandchildren: Claire, Addie, and Gabriel Burkhard, Joshua and Ryan Melinski, Aaron Crosby, Drake Binninger, Gabriela Nunez-Janes, Gwen Schoville, Cheyenne Allar and Madison Schoville; a sister-in-law, Carol Braun of Oconomowoc. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Margaret Nowak; 5 siblings: Joseph, Francis, John, Margaret, and Jacob.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee. Lasting memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Manor, 111 Commercial Ave, Footville, WI. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.
