SUN PRAIRIE-Joseph D. “Joe” Briggs, age 33, of Sun Prairie, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1980, in Madison, the son of Donald and Rebecca (Tracy) Briggs. He was a 1998 graduate of Madison East High School. Joe married Kristen Crary on Oct. 20, 2007, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, camping, hunting, and fishing. Joe was an avid Nascar, Packers, and Brewers fan and golfer. Joe also enjoyed woodworking and cutting trees and at one time owned his own roofing and moving company.

Joe is survived by his wife, Kristen; son, Lukas Johnson; daughter in heart, Katrina Johnson; dad, Donald Briggs; brother, Matthew (Breanna); sister, Mary Ellen (Rick) Pomo; mother and father-in-law, Doug and Sharon Crary; sisters-in-law, Melissa Crary and Angel (James) Alvarado; aunts and uncles, Ann (Kirby) Turnipseed, Tim Briggs, Jean (Steve) Isburner, and Dick (Betty) Tracy; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca; maternal grandparents, Ginny and Albert Tracy; paternal grandparents, Donald and Betty Briggs; aunts, Linda Skibbe and Roberta Tracy; and cousin, Thomas Briggs.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, with the Rev. Berndt Tweit presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. as well as from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
