John P. Jensen

MADISON-John P. Jensen, age 83, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1930, the son of Wallace R. and Erma L. (Swafford) Jensen. He graduated from Madison Central High School in 1948, where he lettered in football, track, tennis, and basketball. John married Patricia Ann Larson on May 2, 1953, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Following high school, John became a skilled roofer, a trade he continued for many years. He then worked as a police officer for the Madison Police Department. Following this, he worked for General Casualty Insurance, retiring after 30 years. John enjoyed bowling and golfing for many years. He was a member of Lake Edge Lutheran Church.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat Jensen; daughter, Kris Jensen (Laura Laurenzi); sons, Steve (Sandi) Jensen and Tim Jensen; grandchildren, Amber Jensen and Zack (Katie) Jensen, Aimee (Matthew) Bach, and Taylor and Ryan Jensen; great-grandchildren, Caleb Jensen, Caden and Keeli Bach; sisters, Aileen Gray and Beverly Olson; sisters-in-law, Charlene Bronson and Elaine Larson; and is further survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Jensen; and sisters, Evelyn Schwoegler and Lillian Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, with the Rev. Stephen Marsh presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, and also from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

John will be remembered as a kind and humble man, who was devoted to his wife and family.

    The WISC-TV studio parking lot was busy with hundreds of viewers bringing their sensitive documents to be destroyed as part of Shredfest with the Better Business Bureau Saturday morning.

    A combined 1,295 cars dropped off bags of papers at WISC-TV on Raymond Road and SVA Certified Public Accountants firm on John Q. Hammons Drive.

    News 3 and Better Business Bureau team members unloaded bags of documents from viewers' cars and Pellitteri Waste Systems' Data Destruction team put the papers into the shredding trucks.
