Joan Elmore, age 76, passed away on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at her residence with her family by her side.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1937, in Madison, the daughter of Louis and Rose (Tortorici) Cassini. Joan attended St. Joseph School and was a proud graduate of Central High School. She married the love of her life, Bill Elmore in 1957 in Madison.

Joan was a loving wife and mother, and was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church. She worked as a waitress at Josie’s Restaurant and was very proud of “The Bush” and her Italian heritage. She loved cooking, working in the yard, tending to her flowers, visiting with neighbors, and caring for her home. The most important part of her life was her family; she was especially proud of her grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her husband, Bill of Madison; children, Mike (Sonia Hawkins) Elmore of Amarillo, TX., Bob Elmore of Madison, Kathy (Randy) Freye of Madison, and Nan (Jeff) Peterson of Mt. Horeb; six grandchildren, Matt Elmore, Erin Elmore, Amanda Elmore, Dusten (Sanae) Elmore, Johanna Freye, and Cole Peterson; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, and Connor; twin brother, Louie (Shirley) Cassini Jr. of Madison; brother-in-law, Bob Peterson; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marietta Peterson; and her best friend, dog Auggie.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.     The WISC-TV studio parking lot was busy with hundreds of viewers bringing their sensitive documents to be destroyed as part of Shredfest with the Better Business Bureau Saturday morning.

    A combined 1,295 cars dropped off bags of papers at WISC-TV on Raymond Road and SVA Certified Public Accountants firm on John Q. Hammons Drive.

    News 3 and Better Business Bureau team members unloaded bags of documents from viewers' cars and Pellitteri Waste Systems' Data Destruction team put the papers into the shredding trucks.
