Jerry W. Dwyer

Jerry W. Dwyer, age 83 of Monroe, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital.

Jerry was born June 6, 1930 in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Charles A. and Regina Rachel (Rattin) Dwyer. He was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School where he lettered in baseball and basketball. Jerry attended Carroll College in Waukesha on a basketball scholarship, playing all four years. Following his graduation from college, the Vice President of Operations for the Syracuse Nationals (who later became the Philadelphia 76ers) encouraged Jerry to enter the N.B.A. draft. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November, 1952 and served two years before his honorable discharge in September, 1954. Jerry married Catherine Olson on October 15, 1966 in Monroe. He worked at Triangle (Purity) Cheese for over 20 years and Monroe Cheese Corp for 10 years before retiring. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Monroe.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Dwyer of Monroe; a son, Brian Dwyer of Madison; sister-in-law, Shirley Dwyer of FL; two nephews, Bruce Dwyer of WA, and Scott Dwyer of FL. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1974; his father in 1982; a brother, Charles R. Dwyer in 1996; sister-in-law, Marlys Olson; and in-laws, John and Dorothy Marty, Frederick Olson.

Military graveside services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, with Reverend Tiff Bates officiating. There will be no visitation.

The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
