Grace Louise Burke

Madison - Grace L. Burke, age 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

She was born on November 14, 1914, in Arundel, Quebec, the youngest of eight children born to Henry and Emma (Morrison) Laughren. She became an American citizen and joined the Air Force during WWII where she served as a distinguished medic. After the war, Grace moved to Madison where she married Verne Burke. She worked for the city of Madison and transitioned to the Veterans Administration Hospital where she worked until her retirement with Verne. Grace volunteered for 35 years at both St. Mary’s Hospital and the Red Cross following retirement. She enjoyed dress-making, knitting, growing roses and volunteering.

Grace is survived by her nieces and nephew, Lois, Linda, Lindsey, Marilyn, June and Marion of Canada.

She was preceded in death by her husband Verne in 1988, and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Monday, June 3, 2013 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, with Fr. John Nellissery officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home
