Gerald Jerome Storms

Gerald Jerome Storms, age 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 25, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., Fitchburg.

He was born in Richwood on July 22, 1927, the son of Allen and Lillian (Augustson) Storms. Gerald was employed for a number of years at Oscar Mayer. He was involved in several construction partnerships and businesses for over 50 years, most notably Jerry Storms Construction. Gerald had a lifelong love of working with wood which in his retirement years developed into a sawmill business. As a dedicated member of Deerfield Lutheran Church, he used his woodworking skills to begin a ministry of making faith chests that were given to the babies baptized there. This has become a legacy as other church members have continued the work he began. Gerald was on the Deerfield Village Board for many years, spearheaded fundraising for the library and was instrumental in developing the Deerfield Industrial Park. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. Gerald was united in marriage to Arlene Beth Goplen on May 1, 1948, at the Richland Methodist Church in Blue River. Jerry and Arlene loved to travel and traveled extensively throughout the United States.

He is survived by his children: Gloria (Jerry) Oleston of Janesville, Greg (Judy) Storms of Deerfield, Sheila Storms of Florida, Doug Storms of Deerfield, Joel (Belinda) Storms of Deerfield, and Jill Ball of Madison; 11 grandchildren: Ryan (Wendy) Oleston, Carrie (Stephen) Krahn, Marissa (Richard) Grooms, Caren (Timm) Heller, Kayla (Nathan) Anderson, Krystle (Kurtis) Nelson, Brittany (Derek) Mergen, Trey Storms, Kailee, Jarod and Connor Ball; 9 great grandchildren: Brett and Caroline Oleston, Grace Grooms, Benjamin Krahn, Trenton and Landon Heller, Tia and Maci Anderson, Mason Nelson, and a great grandchild due in October; and 4 sisters: Gladys Johnson, Elma Honer, Vera Buyatt and Mary (Jay) Zimpel. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene in 2010; sister, Gert (Jim) Marose; 2 brothers, Harold "Doc" (Charlotte) Storms and Floyd Storms; and 2 brothers-in-law, Melvin Johnson and Lloyd Buyatt.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at DEERFIELD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 206 S. Main St., Deerfield. A visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. "Dad's greatest loves were being outdoors cutting down trees, hunting with his sons and spending time with his family. Whether it was community involvement, church projects or family, Dad was a 'get er done' kind of guy. Thanks for all the memories, Dad."
