MADISON-Eleanor Skinner, age 101, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Wynwood West of Madison.

She was born on July 26, 1912, to Rufus and Lydia Cooper in Dawson, Ill. While her husband, Joe, was employed by IBM, they lived in Chicago and Minneapolis. He retired in 1971. They moved to Balsam Lake, then Amery, and finally to Madison in 2005. Eleanor gave her time to being a hostess during the Minneapolis Aquatennial, leading her daughters’ Campfire Girls Club, and volunteering at St. Croix Valley Hospital for 28 years. Above all, she was a devoted wife and mother. Eleanor’s passions were quilting and flower gardening. She was generous with her accomplishments. She also enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and watching sports on TV.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Susan (Fred) Fischer of Cashiers, N.C. and Sally (John) Mather of Madison; grandson, Eric (Joy) Fischer of Savannah, Ga.; niece, Becky Eke of Lewiston, Idaho; and their extended families. She was also the proud great-grandmother of three-year-old triplets. Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Colby “Joe” Skinner.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospital Volunteer Partners, 235 State St., St. Croix Falls, WI 54024. Attn. Mickey Gebhard.
