Edwin (Eddie) Wipperfurth

Edwin “Eddie” Wipperfurth, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home farm on Monday, December 9, 2013. Eddie was born on April 17, 1926 in the town of Dane to Edward and Alma Wipperfurth. He enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and served in Europe. In 2011, Eddie was very proud to have participated in the Badger Honor Flight. He married the love of his life, Ruth Moe, on June 25, 1949 in Madison. Eddie farmed throughout his life and also was an accomplished electrician. He was very proud of playing dartball at Bristol Lutheran for 54 years, 52 of which he served as captain. Eddie was long time member of VFW Post 348. He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Eddie was always a gentleman, known for his big heart, sense of humor, and caring for others.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; children, Joan (Mark) Vanness of Atlanta, GA, Willard (Kay) of Lake Mills, Martha (Marty) Robbins of Madison, and Robert (Julie) of Windsor; grandchildren, Eric, Jeffrey Hecker, Julie Hecker, Trevor Robbins, Katie Homuth, Amanda Peterson, and Jessica Hecker; great-grandchildren, Michael, Jacob, Kyle, Nicholas, Henry, Jack, and Sydney; brother, Florience of Lodi. Further survived by nieces, nephews, and other friends. Preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers.

A service will be held at BRISTOL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6835 North Hwy. N, Sun Prairie, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 and again at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday. Burial with full military honors to be held at Bristol Lutheran Cemetery.

    The free BBB Shredfest event Saturday offered anyone with documents containing personal information to shred up to three bags. Destroying documents is one way to protect one's identity and thwart fraudsters.

    More than 1,600 cars stopped by two Madison locations from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, and 27 tons of documents were shredded, a Better Business Bureau representative said. The sites were at SVA Certified Public Accountants, 1221 John Q Hammons Dr. and Warner Park, 2930 N. Sherman Ave.

    PHOTOS: Thousands take part in 34th annual CrazyLegs 2016

    The 34th annual CrazyLegs Classic 8K Run and 2-mile Walk Saturday raised money for UW Athletics. As of Friday night, 13,000 people had signed up to participate, and organizers expected more to register Saturday morning before the race begins in waves at 11 a.m.

    WINNERS: Pat Jenkins, 24, of Cambridge, is the top finisher in the men's category. UW law student Jessa Hackman, 24, of Madison, is the top female finisher.
