Doris Hoppe

MADISON-Doris Flora Hoppe, age 94, died peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1918, to Lena and Frederic Gerber in Monticello. Doris graduated from Madison East High School in 1936. Following high school, she began work as a secretary in Madison. On July 8, 1939, she was united in marriage to Leslie Hoppe. Into this union, were born three children, Barbara, Lynnette, and Gary. Doris was an active at-home mother until her children reached school age.

She then returned to her secretarial career. Doris was an administrative assistant for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for more than 30 years.

She had many interests outside of her career. Doris loved to travel. Over the years, she visited 48 of the 50 states, as well as a number of foreign countries. By far her favorite destination was Hawaii, which she visited six times. Doris loved to play cards with family and friends, especially bridge and euchre. She was an avid sports fan and was a league bowler for many years, finally turning in her bowling ball at age 90. Doris loved her church as well. She was a member of Memorial United Church of Christ from infancy (over 93 years). Friends and family will remember Doris for her positive attitude, her great sense of adventure, and wonderful smile. She always enjoyed visiting with others.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Barbara Moorhouse; grandson, Mark Heisig and his children, Christopher (his daughter, Lilly), Jessy, Tristin, and Savannah; grandson, Wade (Noralyn) Heisig and their son, Casey; grandson, Todd Heisig and his children, Kevin, Paulina, Samantha, Andrew, and Ellie; her daughter, Lynnette (Daniel) Gerhard; grandson, Brandon (Andrea) Porter and their daughter, Rachel; granddaughter, Karen (John) Gimnig and their children, Megan and Ryan; granddaughter, Bethany Gerhard; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hoppe; grandson, Brian (Bobbi) Hoppe and their daughters, Kailey and Aubrey; granddaughter, Becki Hoppe (Jason Schuler) and their children, Kameron Lee and Gabrielle Schuler; and nieces, Sandy Wolfe and Kathy Stittleberg. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary; sister, Delma Brensike; and nephew, John Brensike.

Funeral services will be held at MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 5705 Lacy Road, Fitchburg at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or Memorial United Church of Christ.

The family would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare for the generous and compassionate care Doris was given.

Funeral services will be held at MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 5705 Lacy Road, Fitchburg at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Cemetery:
Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
