Donald Robert Kleist

Donald “Donny” Robert Kleist, age 67, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, June 12, 2014.

He was born in Baraboo on December 24, 1946 to the late Robert W. and Grace B. (Snyder) Kleist. He graduated from Sauk Prairie High School, class of 1965. Following High School Donny enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during Vietnam. He married Karla J. Huerth on August 8, 1969.

Donny worked for Prairie Plumbing & Heating for nearly 40 years. He was known for his sharp sense of humor, his willingness to help others, and his master knife sharpening skills. Donny enjoyed working on small engines, driving his tractor, playing cards and cribbage, hunting, fishing and family gatherings. He was a member of the Lachmund Cramer VFW Post 7694 of Prairie du Sac.

Donny is survived by his wife Karla; 3 children, Tina (Jeff) Hughbanks of Sauk City, Ted (Sue) Kleist of Plain, Don (Jodi) Kleist of Prairie du Sac; 5 grandchildren, Nick and Tiffany Hughbanks, Kenzington, Gracelyn and Londyn Kleist; a great grandson yet to be born, Brayden Hughbanks; a special dog Molly; 3 siblings, Jack (Darlene) Kleist, Karen (Jerry) Jonas, Kathy (Bob Brunner) Manteuful; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Bobby Kleist, special Aunt (Mick) and friend, Art Huerth.

A celebration of Donny’s life will be held at Jack & Darlene Kleist's, W14354 Jensen Dr., Prairie du Sac, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 21, 2014 with Pastor William Kapp officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the Lachmund Cramer VFW Post 7694. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service, and a potluck luncheon will follow.
