Chris Hanson

MADISON-Chris Hanson, age 72, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1940, in Madison, the son of Odin and Bernice (Hayden) Hanson. Chris attended St. Bernard’s Elementary and Edgewood High School. He earned his BA and MBA from UW-Madison. Chris was also a member of the UW Boxing Team and served in the Air National Guard. He retired in 1998, as comptroller with the Madison Metropolitan School District for 32 years. Chris loved golfing, bowling, skiing, and playing cards. Chris was an avid Badgers and Packers fan, as well.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Thompson) Hanson; children, David (Leslie) Hanson, Eric Hanson, and Jay (Lynn) Hanson; grandchildren, Stacey, Joshua, Francesca, Sam, and Max Hanson; mother of his children, Rosalie Moondancer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary O’Deane “Deane” Hoffman, and Jim Hanson.

Memorial services will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Agrace HospiceCare.

    The free BBB Shredfest event Saturday offered anyone with documents containing personal information to shred up to three bags. Destroying documents is one way to protect one's identity and thwart fraudsters.

    More than 1,600 cars stopped by two Madison locations from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, and 27 tons of documents were shredded, a Better Business Bureau representative said. The sites were at SVA Certified Public Accountants, 1221 John Q Hammons Dr. and Warner Park, 2930 N. Sherman Ave.
