Alice Jane Maiden

MADISON – Alice Jane Maiden, age 78, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital following complications from cancer.

Alice was born on December 3, 1934 in Columbus, WI to Peter and Bertha Haesler. Her family moved to Madison, when she was 4, following the death of her father. Alice graduated from Madison Central High School before going on to attend Madison Business College. She married Harlan Maiden on September 14, 1957 at Memorial United Church of Christ. Alice worked many years as an administrative clerk at the Madison Police Department, retiring in 1992. She enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and spending time with her beloved sisters, especially the time she spent in Switzerland with them, meeting their Swiss relatives.

Alice is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harlan; nieces, Kathy (Chess) Adams of Madison, Carla Rand of Belmont, Margaret Martin, Becky Martin, Anne Martin (fiancée Greg Shortreed) all of Madison; nephews, Peter (Rose) Segerson of Black River Falls, Andrew (Carolyn) Martin of Batavia, IL , and 36 nieces and nephews from Harlan’s side and many great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Hedy Haesler, Helen Martin and Rosemarie Segerson; brothers-in-law, Carl Martin and Robert Segerson; nephew-in-law, John Rand.

A service will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.

  • PHOTOS: Viewers drop off sensitive documents for Shredfest

    The WISC-TV studio parking lot was busy with hundreds of viewers bringing their sensitive documents to be destroyed as part of Shredfest with the Better Business Bureau Saturday morning.

    A combined 1,295 cars dropped off bags of papers at WISC-TV on Raymond Road and SVA Certified Public Accountants firm on John Q. Hammons Drive.

    News 3 and Better Business Bureau team members unloaded bags of documents from viewers' cars and Pellitteri Waste Systems' Data Destruction team put the papers into the shredding trucks.
