Albert "Al" Lee Roehling

Albert “Al” Roehling ,age 85, passed away on Saturday May 4, 2013, at Agrace Hospice Care surrounded by family and friends.

Al was born in Wonewoc on August 29, 1927, to the late Albert and Rosalie Roehling. He was in the Army from 1951 to 1953 stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Riot Squad, Hit and Run Team, Pistol Team, and Detective Supervisor for the Madison Police Department, retiring in 1983 after 29 years of service. Al also owned the Nibble Nook on Schenks Corners with his wife Shirley.

He loved his leisure time at his cabin in Barron County along with reading spy and western novels. Being an avid reader of all kinds of books in his early years he gained both his high school and college degrees from absorbing and retaining the information he read.

He will be dearly missed by Joan Major, his life, fishing and euchre partner, enjoying their times in Florida during Wisconsin winters and 30 shared birthdays. He also enjoyed spending time at VFW 8483 and the Dairyland Cafe with lunch friends.

He will also be missed by his daughters Sharon Mobry, Vicky Nelson and Linda Roehling, and also his grandchildren Chris Mobry (Denise), Nik Mobry (Ryanne), Eric Nelson (Jennifer), Stephanie Nelson, Nichole Nelson (Cory Gates), Jennifer Peterson-Roehling (Julius Patton), Jeremy Roehling (Shannon), Jamie Roehling, Trisha Roehling, Warren Brener, Nathan Brener, Dylan Brener, along with 24 great grandchildren. Ask his grandchildren to tell you the stories about the alligators in Grandpa's basement or the old hermit that lived in the woods by the cabin.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rosalie and Albert Roehling, his wife Shirley Robb Roehling, son David Roehling, and his brothers Carl and Richard Roehling.

Visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 North Sherman Avenue, on Friday May 10, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at ST JOHN'S LUTHERN CHURCH, 322 East Washington Avenue, on Saturday May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with a brief visitation from 10:30 until the time of service. Burial will be at Roselawn immediately following the funeral service.

A celebration of Al's life will be held at The East Side Club on Monona Drive beginning at noon on May 11th. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. John's Luthern Church or Agrace HospiceCare. Special thanks for St. Mary's ICU and Cardiac Care along with Agrace Hospice Care.
