Shirley Ann Podebradsky

MADISON- Shirley Ann Podebradsky, age 84, passed away on Thurs., Jan. 3, 2013. She was born on Sept. 1, 1928, in Luxemburg, the daughter of Hugo and Ethel (Tracey) Zeitler. She married Everett on June 16, 1951, in Oconto. Shirley graduated from Oconto High School in 1946. She graduated from UW-Madison’s School of Education in 1950. After raising 5 children Shirley returned to school at MATC, after which she worked for the State of Wisconsin for 10 years. She was a longtime volunteer at St. Dennis Catholic Church. Shirley enjoyed her book clubs, bridge clubs, and homemakers clubs. She was also a longtime volunteer and troop leader of the Blackhawk Council of Girl Scouts. Shirley loved sewing, knitting, reading, quilting, genealogy, computers, cats, baking and creative projects.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Everett; children, Mary (Michael) Myers, Ann (Doug) Grieb, John (Diane) Podebradsky, Susan Podebradsky, and Tracy McReath (Tom Funk); grandchildren, Chad MacLeod (Amanda), Kim Solis (Ivo), Cassy Butler (Josh), Blake Gerber, Kristen McReath, Adije Podebradsky, Michael McReath, and Nicholas McReath; two great-grandchildren, Henry Butler and Ivo Solis Jr.; sister, Marilyn (David) Gering; brother, Bob Zeitler; brother-in-law, the Rev. Don Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Joanne Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to St. Dennis Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin. A special thank you to the staff at Heritage, Agrace HospiceCare, and also to Betts Odegaard, Joellen Day, and Rosa.
