JANESVILLE---Robert M. Berg, age 84, of Janesville, died on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Evansville Manor. He was born in Chicago on April 9, 1928, the son of Roy S. and Hazel (Bloom) Berg. He attended public Janesville schools and was a 1945 graduate of Janesville High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Doctor of Law degree. He married Barbara Ann Schindler on September 6, 1952, in Blanchardville. Robert served his country during the Korean Conflict with the 40th Infantry Division. Upon his return from the service, he was appointed as Assistant District Attorney for Rock County in 1955 and also served as City Attorney. In January of 1957, he opened his own law office and later joined his brother, Roy in his law practice. In 1963, Robert joined the former M&S Bank as Vice President and trust officer until 1981 when he joined the former First National Bank as Vice President and trust officer. Upon his retirement from First National Bank, he went to practice law with Brennan Steil & Bastings, S.C. Law Firm until May 31, 2005. Robert was a member of Trinity Free Lutheran Church (charter member), Rock County Bar Association, Wisconsin State Bar Association, VFW Post 1621, and was a former trustee for the Oak Hill Cemetery Association. Bob was an avid hunter and a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; 3 children; Eric (Susan) Berg of Madison, Susan (Tim) Lund of Peoria, IL and Janice (Scott) Watson of Surry, ME; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John R. Berg; a grandchild, Tyler Berg; and a brother, Roy Berg.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Janesville with Rev. John Benson officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Janesville.
