Myrtle L. Weichmann

MADISON-Myrtle L. Weichmann, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born on Aug. 15, 1922, in Lodi, the daughter of Carl and Sena (Anderson) Haakenson. She married Russell Weichman on Dec. 23, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa, and he preceded her in death in 1995. Myrtle spent the first few years in Lodi, the family moved to Deerfield and then to Madison in 1939. She was a homemaker while raising her two daughters. Myrtle loved to help people, offering her time and home to foster children. She was an active member and officer for Trinity Lutheran Church, Eastside Business Club, and a Girl Scout leader. Myrtle had a passion for cooking and feeding people. Most of all, she enjoyed helping with the grandchildren, and keeping herself busy. Her greatest joy was being with her family and cooking.

Myrtle is survived by her daughters, Judith (Frank) Fleres of Madison and Cheryl (John “Kim”) Kronemeyer of Phoenix and Grand Rapids; five grandchildren, Thomas (Arsenia), Michael (Lisa), Anthony (Tamara) Fleres, Maria (Bob) Spenle, Richard “Rick” Kasuboske; ten great-grandchildren, Landin, Logan, Carson, Eric, Rebecca, Christina, Brandon, Brody, Tenley, and Andrew; five step great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters, Bernice Holzhueter, Doris Miller, and Shirley Groth; brother, Raymond Haakenson; along with half brothers and half sisters.

Funeral services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. A private family burial will be at Norway Grove Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or Trinity Lutheran Church.

    The WISC-TV studio parking lot was busy with hundreds of viewers bringing their sensitive documents to be destroyed as part of Shredfest with the Better Business Bureau Saturday morning.

    A combined 1,295 cars dropped off bags of papers at WISC-TV on Raymond Road and SVA Certified Public Accountants firm on John Q. Hammons Drive.

    News 3 and Better Business Bureau team members unloaded bags of documents from viewers' cars and Pellitteri Waste Systems' Data Destruction team put the papers into the shredding trucks.
