Madison – Leroy (Roy) E. Gardenier, age 86, passed away on Feb. 19, 2013, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg.

Roy served two years in the Army during World War II, and then returned to own the Edmund Cheese Factory before moving to Madison, where he was a foreman at Borden’s Dairy. He then worked at the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1990.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy; sons, Keith (Judy), Bob (Marlys); grandchildren, Mike (Yvonne), Kevin, Jenna (Zak), Steven (Monica), Lindsay and Becky; six great grandchildren; sisters Betty Gardenier and Carol Arneson and many other relatives. Roy’s grandchildren were the joy of his life. As a testament to his love for them his grandchildren set up a 24-hour vigil during his last days. One of them was holding his hand when he passed on to eternal life.

A celebration of his life will be held Thurs., Feb. 28, at CrossPoint Church of the Nazarene, 5011 Commercial Ave., Madison. Visitation is at 1:00 pm; service follows at 2 pm.
