Leatrice M. Larson

Leatrice M. Larson, age 87, of Richland Center, formerly of Highland, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at The Richland Hospital, following a brief illness. The former Leatrice Adams was born on September 2, 1925 in Adam-Friendship in a hotel owned by her parents Fred and Lylle Mae (Laing) Adams. Following graduation from the Richland Center High School, she worked as a telephone operator until she married Gaige Larson on September 8, 1951. They farmed near Highland until moving into Highland in 1964. Leatrice served as secretary of Sunny Ridge School in the late 1950’s. She worked at Cudahy Cheese for 16 months and retired from Stauffer Cheese in Blue Mounds after 16 years. In 2010, she moved to Richland Center to live with her caretakers, Matt and Jackie Rosenbaum.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaige on August 26, 1999; her parents; a sister, Mary Brewer; son-in-law, Jerry Arnold; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Larson and Harold Sieling and two sisters-in-law, Helen Sieling and Flo Larson. Leatrice is survived by a son, John (Lil) Larson of Janesville; four daughters, Ann (Lloyd) Schwingle of Platteville; Jean Brendemuehl of Lancaster; Susan Arnold of Sun Prairie and Lynn (Emmett) Scullion of Lancaster; 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a brother, Fred (Lorraine) Adams of Thousand Oaks, CA; three brothers-in-law, Duane Brewer of Viola; Willis Larson of Calera AL and Charles (Blanche) Larson of Dubuque, IA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris of Montfort as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is also survived by her special caretaking family, Matt and Jackie Rosenbaum and their children, Zachery, Gabby and Jack and their loving St. Bernard, Conan who visited her in her last hours.

Leatrice was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Highland. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed basketball, football and watching wrestling with Matt. Leatrice enjoyed her trip of a lifetime with her caretaker family when they attended a Green Bay Packer game, where she toured the stadium, Hall of Fame and sat in a heated box seat. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, York Peppermint Patties, having her family come to visit, her visits to Amish flower stands and watching her birds and Conan.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Highland. Pastor Ramona Orton will officiate with burial in the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday after 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used for Leatrice’s favorite charities.
