John Allen Rosenau

John Allen Rosenau passed away peacefully at the Agrace Hospice Center on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. He was born on July 28, 1926, in Fairchild, to Herman and Selma Rosenau. Several years later, Herman and Selma moved their family from Fairchild to Madison. John loved to fish, he spent his childhood on or near Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. On his 18th birthday, John took the oath to join the U.S. Navy and is a veteran of World War II. He served as the radio man aboard the LST 881 in the South Pacific. After the war, John attended the Chicago School of Electronics. Following school John returned to Madison where he met and began dating Elaine Stolper. On April 19, 1951, the two were married. They had four sons and one daughter, Mark, Dale (Diane), Keith (Laura), Beth (Kim)Kramer, and Wayne (Mary). John is survived by all five of their children and nine grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, in 2008.

For years, John sang in the church choir in addition to singing bass in Barbershop Quartet. He worked for more than two decades at Gisholt Machinery on East Washington Ave. and again for more than two decades as a supervisor at Oscar Mayer and Company. His love for the lakes continued until his death. You could regularly find him hanging out with his friends at the Tenney Locks and fishing the breakwater. John and Elaine dedicated their lives to their family and their faith.

A memorial service is planned for a later date. Memorials may be made in John’s name to Monona Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4411 Monona Drive, Madison or to Agrace HospiceCare.

  • PHOTOS: Viewers drop off sensitive documents for Shredfest

    The WISC-TV studio parking lot was busy with hundreds of viewers bringing their sensitive documents to be destroyed as part of Shredfest with the Better Business Bureau Saturday morning.

    A combined 1,295 cars dropped off bags of papers at WISC-TV on Raymond Road and SVA Certified Public Accountants firm on John Q. Hammons Drive.

    News 3 and Better Business Bureau team members unloaded bags of documents from viewers' cars and Pellitteri Waste Systems' Data Destruction team put the papers into the shredding trucks.
