Jessica Suzanne (Burr Knott) Showers, age 47, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Jessie was born on October 16, 1965 in Augusta, Georgia, to Bernard and Susanne Burr. She met the love of her life David Showers and they were united in marriage on January 30, 1988. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in January 2013.

Jessie graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1984. After graduation, she started working at Meriter Hospital in housekeeping. She worked her way to being a certified nursing assistant, earned her RN degree in 2000, and became a Nursing Administrative Coordinator, all while raising three sons. She was honored recently for 25 years of service to the Meriter organization.

She enjoyed watching her sons play sports, camping with her family, swimming, and going to Badger football games. Her family was the most important thing to her.
Jessie was an inspiration to many and was always willing to help others. She bravely battled lung cancer for the past 5 ½ years and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by David, her loving husband of 25 years, three sons, Joshua, Zachary, and Jeremy, her parents Earl and Martha Knott, siblings, Lynda (Ron) Bennett, Amy (Chris) Kroll, Michael (Jennifer) Knott, Amanda Knott, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her biological parents, Bernard and Susanne Burr and brother Roland Piefer.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 at Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison. A Florence Nightingale Tribute Ceremony will take place on Thursday at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Door Creek Church, 6602 Dominion Drive, Madison at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 9:00 - 11:00. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park following the service.

MADISON, Wis.--A west Madison store is part of an effort to collect hundreds of stuffed animals to donate to six police departments in Southern Wisconsin.

Todd Merryfield, owner of The Learning Shop at 714 S. Gammon Road, said the store is collecting the bears for officers who use them to help comfort children with whom police come in contact.

"This is a great way to support what (police) do," Merryfield said. "Those are the kids that need something like this to reassure them, calm them down, and let them know that things are all right."

Nearly 500 plush animals were donated Tuesday, a Learning Shop spokeswoman said. The Madison store's effort is part of a larger initiative through the Bears for Humanity organization.
