Arnold Mier

MIDDLETON-Arnold (Arnie) Mier, age 85, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013. He was born on November 23, 1927 in Manitoba, Canada, the son of Anthony Mier and Anna Froland. He married Janet Ruth Hurd on October 7, 1950, in Madison, WI. Arnie was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army. He worked for Madison Gas and Electric for 42 years, and in retirement drove cars for several dealerships in Madison. Arnie enjoyed feeding birds, keeping up his yard, wood crafting, travel, and his grandkids. Arnie loved to tell Jokes, loved the packers, worked on the chain gang at Middleton football games and ushered at some UW football games. He was a member of American Legion Post in Cross Plains. He was a long time volunteer for the Middleton VFW and loved helping with the Middleton Good Neighbor festival. Arnie was also a Boy Scout leader for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Ruth; son, Gary (Karen ) Mier Madison,WI and daughters Janet (Wayne) Dykstra Port Edwards Wi , Joanne (Joseph) Faust Elkhorn WI, and Jeanne (Ernie) Frie Isle MN; Janet’s children, Derek (great-grand children Hailey and Darian), Aaron (Kristina) and Elise Dykstra; Joanne’s children, John Faust, Janine (Matthew) Wachter, and Jessica Faust ; Jeanne’s children, Amber and Lindsay Frie; brother, Denny (Beverly) Fluckiger; Sisters-in-Law Carol Beth Gessler, Mavis Fieber, Ethel Hurd, Esther Fortier as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKE’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2013 with the Reverend Roger Eigenfeld presiding. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2013 and also at the church on Monday from10:00 AM until the time of the service. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital and Dean Care, the staff at Oak Park Rehab, Oakwood East Rehab, the staffs at Meadowmere Assisted Living and Heartland HospiceCare.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2013 and also at the church on Monday from10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Service:
Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKE’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2013 with the Reverend Roger Eigenfeld presiding.

Cemetery:
