Rena May Amacher
Rena May Amacher 80, of Fort Atkinson passed away on Wednesday December 18, 2013, at Alden Estates of Jefferson.
Rena was born May 8, 1933 in New Diggings Township, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clyde and Eula (Tippett) Mullen. She was a 1951 graduate of New Diggings High School, and 1955 graduate of Wisconsin State College, Whitewater with a B.Ed. in Business. Rena continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating in 1965 with a M.S. degree in Physical Education.
On December 9, 1967 she married Dale Amacher in Shullsberg, Wisconsin. In December this year, they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
Rena taught physical education for 32 years in various schools including Barneveld, New London, Fort Atkinson, CESA 2, and Watertown. She retired in 1988, after teaching for 22 years in the Watertown Unified School System. Upon retirement, Rena established the Rena Mullen Amacher Scholar Athlete Scholarship at Watertown High School. This recognizes an exceptional female athlete, who has attended public school in Watertown.
Rena was a member of the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association, Jefferson County Area Retired Educators, and Dairyland License Plate Collectors Club.
Survivors include her husband, Dale, Fort Atkinson; sister-in-law Beryle Mullen, Shullsburg; brother-in-laws LaVerne (Donna) Amacher, Fort Atkinson; Russel (Nancy) Amacher, Fort Atkinson; Kenneth (Carole) Amacher, Safford, AZ; many nieces and nephews, and special friend Jenifer (Michael) Hedrick, Watertown.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Howard and Clyde, and sister-in-laws Jenalda Mullen and Mary Amacher.
Rena loved cats, and will be sadly missed by Clayton, Sammie, Freckles and Mini. Several others are waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge.
Her love of sports made her an avid follower of many teams from high school to college and the Green Bay Packers. She especially loved basketball, with the Cuba City girls’ basketball being a special favorite. To honor her interests, people attending her services are asked to dress casually, and wear the colors or logos of their favorite team. (Even the Bears.)
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 21 at the Dunlap Memorial Home, 604 South Main Street, Fort Atkinson with Pastor Delisa Buckingham-Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the memorial home until time of service. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
