Marcella Fern Sprecher

Published On: Feb 12 2014 02:54:16 PM CST

Marcella Sprecher, age 102, passed into eternal life with our Lord, on early Tuesday morning, Feb. 11, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family at her bedside.

Marcella was born on March 22, 1911, in the township of Honey Creek, WI, daughter of George and Sarah Felix. She grew up on the Honey Creek farm next to the church, where her parents were faithful members, and came to love church music at an early age. Marcella graduated from Prairie du Sac High School, in 1928, and went on to study music at the WI School of Music, in Madison. She began teaching piano students before she was married, and several years beyond. About this time, Marcella accompanied the Sauk County Male Chorus, for about 10 years.

Marcella married Wilbert Sprecher, on May 9, 1936, at the (then) EUB Blackhawk Church, in rural Sauk City, WI. Together they farmed near Blackhawk, and raised 4 children: Wilmar, Maurice, Karen, and Marla.

Marcella and Wilbert loved the church. So Marcella was always grateful for her opportunity to be the church’s organist for many years, as well as enjoyed being the piano accompanist for the children’s choir for several years, and then in recent years, with the organist. Another privilege she felt honored to have and enjoyed was to accompany the Sauk County Homemakers Chorus, for about 15 years. She enjoyed a variety of other interests, as sewing, quilting, or other creative crafts. She always liked to learn a new challenging project. Every summer she was always very busy in her large garden and berry patches, to provide so well for her family. Marcella enjoyed being with family and sometimes playing games on a Sunday. She and Wilbert enjoyed visiting relatives, and Marcella always found it so interesting to keep up with “family tree” records.

Marcella is survived by her children, Wilmar(Marilyn), Maurice, Karen(Paul) Ladd, and Marla; 3 grandchildren, Michael Sprecher(Richard Schwandt), Kirk(Stephanie) Sprecher, and Timothy Ladd; 3 great-grandchildren, Maddie, Sydney, and Sam Sprecher; 1 sister-in-law, Ruth Hehenberger, and 1 cousin, Gertrude Wilhelm; nephews and nieces and special friends of the family, Nita Enge and Barb Oelke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Wilbert; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Viola Sorg, Clarence and Argent Sprecher, Cecil and Rosina McCready and Don Hehenberger, and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the Blackhawk U.M. Church, Sauk City, at 11am, on Feb. 14, 2014. Visitation will precede the service at 10am.

Memorial contributions to be of choice.

Your family will miss you, but we are comforted by our memories and your assurance in His peace and joy.
