Joseph Clifford Kleifgen

Joseph C. Kleifgen, age 86 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014 at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Michael Richel celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m.

Joe was born on April 17, 1927 and raised on a farm near Pittsville, WI. At 17 he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific Ocean theatre of WWII. He was honorably discharged and returned to Pittsville to graduate from High School in 1947. While in Pittsville he met a new high school teacher, Mae Carol Gogert and they were married at St. Joseph’s Church in Baraboo, Wisconsin on December 26, 1953.

Joe spent 35 years of his working career at the Wisconsin Dells Ice Cream and Locker Plant. He was a member of The American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and he served on the Board of Directors for the local St. Vincent DePaul. He was an active member of the St. Cecilia Parish in Wisconsin Dells.

Joe loved sports and coached local Little League baseball and basketball for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially fond of making maple syrup at his cabin in the woods for the last 20 years.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mae and his five children; sons, Mike (Terry) Kleifgen of New Lisbon, WI, Steve (Shirley) Kleifgen of Oregon, WI, and Bob (Sharyn) Kleifgen of Suamico, WI; daughters, Patty (Scott) Kelbel of Oregon, WI and Jennifer Kleifgen of Stoughton, WI; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Sandy) Bruley; sister, Joy (Mike) Honkomp; sister-in-law, Faye Bruley and aunt Dorothy Faust as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
