Glenn Rudolph Esenther

Madison-Glenn R. Esenther, age 87, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

He was born on June 23, 1926, in Chicago, IL, the son of Rudolph and Lillian (Hartigan) Esenther. Growing up in Chicago, Glenn attended Mason School and Blessed Sacrament School. He graduated from St. Mel High School in 1944. He attended St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA where he received a B.A. in Science in 1951. Glenn continued his education at Marquette University in Milwaukee, receiving a M.S. in Zoology in 1953. Glenn then received his P.H.D. in Entomology in 1961 from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Glenn was employed by the U.S. Forest Products Laboratory in Madison from 1960 to 1986 where he pioneered important research in termite control. Glenn had two great interests, termite research and playing golf. He is remembered for his patient, uncomplaining nature.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Irene; sons, Daniel (Lori) Esenther, Alan (Kristin) Esenther and Paul (Lezlie) Esenther; daughters, Anne Esenther, Ellen (Steve) Lee, Christine Esenther, Lorene (Jeffrey) Folgert, Mary Jo (Christopher) Capelli, Marguerite Esenther and Connie Esenther; grandchildren, Julie Esenther, Kelly Esenther, Gavin Folgert, Jake Folgert, Sarah Esenther, Anna Esenther, Ben Esenther, Mary Esenther, John Capelli, Joseph Capelli, Alec Esenther, Zoey Esenther and Cole Esenther; sisters, Shirley Esenther and LaVerne Fitzgerald; and brother Fr. Keith Esenther, S.J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave, Madison, with Msgr. Michael Burke officiating. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
