Edwin H. Hansen

Published On: Sep 03 2013 10:34:17 AM CDT

Edwin H. Hansen, 82, of Whitewater, formerly of Fort Atkinson and Minocqua, went home to the Lord surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 29, 2013.

This tough Norwegian survived falling out of a tree with a running chainsaw, a constant battle with squirrels at birdfeeders, injuries by hogs and many other near death experiences. However, it would take a rare form of cancer to take him from us.

Ed was born August 18, 1931 to Edwin and Clara Hansen in Oak Park, IL. He married Marian Anderson of Berwyn, IL on January 30, 1954. They lived in Alaska while Ed served in the Army. From 1959 to 1990, Ed worked at Hawthorn Mellody Dairy in Whitewater. On farms in the Fort Atkinson ¬and Whitewater area, they raised four children. Ed enjoyed gardening, growing crops and raising livestock. He took pride in providing food on the table for his growing family.

Upon retiring from Hawthorn Mellody, Ed and Marian owned and operated Mercer Lake Resort in Minocqua, WI for twenty years. Ed always referred to the resort as “God’s Country.” He loved the lakes and abundance of nature surrounding him. With his “gift of gab”, Ed enjoyed getting to know all the guests. Returning to Whitewater, Ed found a new “home” with great friends at Prairie Village. Ed lived a life of service to his family, community and Lord. As a husband, father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, he was dedicated to strong Christian family values. Above and beyond raising his own children, he devoted his time to nurturing his grandchildren and showing them an abundance of love and faith. He put his heart in to volunteering in the Jaycees, Boy Scouts, Son’s of Norway, churches and hospitals in Fort Atkinson and Minocqua. Where ever he went, he was a friend to everyone and always ready to lend a hand.

Ed was preceded in death by Marian, his wife of 57 years.

Ed is survived by his children; Kristine Rohde of Fort Atkinson, Carl Hansen of Munising, MI, Neil Hansen of Minocqua and Karen (Michael) Schultz of Winneconne; grandchildren Justin and Andrea Rohde, Brian Hansen, Heather (Michael) Lemke, Hannah and Hayden Schultz; great-granddaughter Hailey Lemke; sister Ruth Hansen of Forest Park, IL. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Whitewater Bible Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon with a service and luncheon to follow. Burial will be held Thursday, September 5 at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Stickney, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northland Bible Camp (Dunbar, WI), Son’s of Norway or Rainbow Hospice Care, Jefferson.

The Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
