Cornelius "Connie" J. Lucey

Cornelius “Connie” J. Lucey, age 84, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Meadows in Spring Green.

He was born in Mazomanie, March 6, 1930 to the late Wilfred and Coletta (Hawley) Lucey. Connie was a graduate of Mazomanie High School, class of 1949. On June 17, 1950 Connie was united in marriage to Alice “Pat” Zwettler, his high school sweetheart. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2014. They farmed on the family farm for over 58 years and raised 8 children and were lifelong members of the St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Mazomanie and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan and loved following the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, Cardinals and the White Sox. Connie served on the Patron’s Coop Board of Directors for twelve years, and was past president. He enjoyed tending to his gladiola garden in the summer.

Connie is survived by his children, Rita (Tom) Pomykalski, of Cross Plains, Randy (Linda) Lucey of Mazomanie, Pete Lucey of Fitchburg, Terry (Christine Geske) Lucey of Madison, Paula Shelton of Cross Plains, Tom (Rocio) Lucey of Highlands Ranch, CO, Andy (Alanna) Lucey of Watertown, MN and Maria (Rodney) Denu of Mazomanie; 13 grandchildren, Michael Pomykalski, Leah (Andrew) Wiseman, Daniel (Devan Fox)Pomykalski, Emily Pomykalski, Jordan and Haley Shelton, Gabriel and Diego Lucey, Carson and Kendall Lucey, Riley, Carmen and Sydney Denu; one great-grandchild, Damien Engler; 4 sibliings, Betty Richgels, George Lucey, Dean (Peg) Lucey, and Coletta Statz; numerous other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, a sister Dorothy Ring, and a brother Donald Lucey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 253 N. Washington Street, Spring Green, with Fr. Michael Resop officiating. Burial will follow in St. Barnabas Cemetery, Mazomanie. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Hwy 14 West Mazomanie, from 3:30 pm until 7:00 pm, and also at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 pm the day of visitation.

Connie and Pat’s family would like to thank Home Health United Hospice and the staff at the Meadows in Spring Green for their expert and loving care of mom and dad over the past two and a half years. It was a wonderful place for them to share their last days together.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
