Carol T. Gilbertson

Dodgeville – Carol T. Gilbertson, age 73, of Dodgeville, died peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Carol was born on September 4, 1940 in Dodgeville, the daughter of Jerome and Anastacia (Powers) Brunker. She graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1958. She was united in marriage to Eugene R. Gilbertson on July 16, 1966 in Dubuque, Iowa. They resided in Dodgeville and together raised three children. She worked at various local businesses in Dodgeville throughout these years including Bob’s Electric. She was an active member of the community and was proud to be a volunteer at Upland Hills Hospital.

Carol was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville, where she and Gene attended Mass regularly. She was a loving provider and took great pride in the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She loved life, especially the time spent at Lake Wisconsin and South Padre Island, Texas. Her family and friends were very important to her. She loved traveling, camping, golfing, playing cards and crossword puzzles. Carol had a great sense of humor and will be dearly missed.

Carol is survived by her husband, Eugene Gilbertson, of Dodgeville; her daughter, Lori Brass, of South Padre Island, TX; her son, Jeff (Keely) Thomas, of Dodgeville; her brothers, Donald (Joan) Brunker, of Ridgeway, Tom (Ann) Brunker, of Hollandale, Jerry Brunker, of Dalles, TX; her grandchildren were the love of her life, Kelby and Kerby Thomas, of Dodgeville; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron (Helene) Gilbertson and Luanne (Jim) Borcherding; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher, her parents, Jerome and Anastacia Brunker, her brother, Harold Brunker, her sister-in-law, Shirley Brunker, her nephews, Brian Brunker and Rickey Gilbertson, and Robert and Isabell Gilbertson and Bennie and Julie Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Father Patrick Wendler will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Joseph’s School Trust Fund or Upland Hills Hospice.
