Bernice E. Brown, 89, of Platteville died on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Epione Pavilion, Cuba City.

Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville, at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Online condolences can be made at The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.

Bernice was born on December 18, 1923 in Elk Grove Twp., Lafayette County the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Kopp) Chase. When she was a year old her mother died and Bernice went to live and was raised by her grandparents, George and Marie Kopp. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1941 and attended the Finley School of Nursing, Dubuque, where she graduated in 1945. Bernice was an Army Cadet Nurse stationed at Schick Army Hospital, Clinton, Iowa. It was there that she met her future husband, Corporal Harold R. Brown. They were married in Kansas in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1998.

Bernice worked at the Cuba City Medical Center and later for Dr. E.J. Schultz and Dr. Erv Leuth. She retired from nursing to raise her grandson, Caleb. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. She enjoyed reading, watching birds, traveling and tending to her flowers. Bernice especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by four children, Kathy Magby of Platteville; Linda (Carl) Ballard of Shullsburg, WI; Michael “Mike” (fiancé, Jackie Allen) Brown of Platteville; Kimberly “Kimmer” (fiancé, Pete Klapatch) Werner of Dane, WI; six grandchildren, Caleb Brown, Joshua Brown, Stacy (fiancé, Carl Fry) Buss, Melissa (fiancé, Jeremy Donner) Starr, Jennifer (Steve) Olson, Miranda (Scott) Bartels; ten great-grandchildren; niece, LaVonne Happe and nephew, Wayne Bellmeyer both of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, stepbrother, Eugene Chase and stepsister, Leone Bellmeyer.
