Karen Ann McCrea, 70, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of Cuba City, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA following a short illness.
Services will be at 11am on Monday, April 1, 2013 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Cuba City, WI with Father David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose Cemetery, Cuba City, WI. Friends may call on Monday, April 1st from 9:30am till time of service at St. Rose Catholic Church in Cuba City, WI. The Haudenshield Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City, WI is serving the family.
Karen was born on August 27, 1942, daughter of Guerdon “Butch” & Sylvia (Lacke) McCrea. Karen spent many happy years in Dubuque Area Residential Care sheltered workshop programs, later at Cozy Corner and ARC’s Life Choices retirement programs. Karen unconditionally loved all of her many friends and family. She had a special fondness for dancing, music and kittens. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Karen is survived by her brother, Jim McCrea of Piedmont, CA; her sister, Barbara (Ronald) McDermott; a niece Sara McDermott (fiancé Mark Kasemeier) of Dubuque, IA; nephews, Brad (Brittney) McDermott of Chicago, IL and their children Lucy & Tate, and Scott (Catie) McDermott of Atlanta, GA and their children Jack & Finn. Karen was a very special friend to Gregory Jurin also of Piedmont, CA and her ARC family whom she loved and lived with for over 35 years. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers a Karen A. McCrea Memorial fund has been established; also donations can be given to the Area Residential Care, 3355 Kennedy Circle, Dubuque, IA 52002.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Kuennen and the entire CVU medical team at Mercy for the care and compassion given to Karen and also to the ARC Kennedy Circle staff for their many years of loving care.
