A man is in jail because he logged onto Facebook from a computer inside a home he was burglarizing and forgot to log out.

Police say 26-year-old Nicholas Wig of St. Paul, Minnesota checked his profile from a home he broke into, and then he didn't log off, reports WCCO.

Homeowner James Wood came home to find cash, credit cards and his watch missing.

He also found a pair of wet jeans, shoes and a belt in his home that he assumed belonged to whoever robbed his house.

Woods told police that he noticed that Wig had pulled up his Facebook profile on his computer. Wood posted to Facebook using Wig’s profile, saying Wig had burglarized his home. He shared his phone number to see if someone would call with information.

Wig texted him later that day and the two agreed to meet at Wood's home so that Wig could get his clothing back in exchange for a recycled cell phone Wig had stolen.

When Wood recognized Wig on the street from his Facebook profile, he called police, who then arrested Wig.

"World's dumbest criminal," Wood said of Wig.
