Instead of shooing cockroaches out of her home, one woman welcomes them with loving, motherly arms.

Yuan Meixia, 37, cares for more than 100,000 cockroaches in her home and then sells them to a pharmaceutical company to be used for a variety of medicines, reports the South China Morning Post.

Meixia feeds the roaches fruit, rice bran and glucose every night and also regulates the climate, so the roaches are safe, comfortable and in prime condition for breeding. She has modified the house to accommodate the insects by adding zippered silk nets instead of doors and sealing every crevice or hole with cement so they can't get out.

"These are all my children, my babies," Meixia told the Southern Metropolis News.

Meixia raises mainly Palmetto bugs, a large and winged cockroach species common in the U.S.
