Wand accepts deal in murder case, pleads guilty

DARLINGTON, Wis. -

The two brothers involved in a deadly September fire that killed three small boys have now both entered plea deals for the murders.

Jeremy Wand, 18, plead guilty in Lafayette County court Wednesday for the deaths of his nephews Alan, Jeffrey and Joseph Wand, attempted homicide of their mother Sharon Wand, felony murder of her unborn child and arson. It was all for conspiring with his brother Armin to set their house on fire for life insurance money.

The deal includes no guarantee that prosecutors will not seek life in prison without chance for parole.

"I decided to enter the plea today because I thought I could get less time and also be able to (remember) my nephews in a different way and to get a second chance so I could have a family one day," said Wand.

Wand was originally set to be in court Wednesday to see if his confession to police would be heard by a jury next month.

Prosecutor Roy Korte said he notified Sharon Wand of the plea deal, which was nearly identical to her ex-husband's.

"She was satisfied with that," said Korte. "She is certainly still recovering physically and emotionally and appreciated the fact that there would be no trial she would have to endure."

Wand's attorney said with strong evidence against him, this plea and a sentencing next month may be his best chance for a fresh start.

"Had we gone to court his story would never have been heard, and now it will be," said Frank Medina, Wand's attorney.

Korte said he will likely ask that Wand not be paroled, but he won't ask for any of these life sentences to be consecutive.

Wand will be sentenced in Lafayette County Court on July 19th.

Armin Wand was sentenced April 17 to three life sentences plus 140 years in prison for killing his three young sons and unborn child in the September house fire.
