MADISON, Wis. -

University of Wisconsin police officials said last weekend’s Final Four celebrations brought out some of the worst alcohol-related issues this year.

Before the Badgers basketball game started Saturday around 8 p.m., UW police had already transported several students to detox, according to a release.

One student had a preliminary blood alcohol content of 0.37 percent, police said. The 21-year-old was found unconscious in a bathroom at Gordon Commons. When officers woke him up, he didn’t know where he was or what day it was.

From Friday through 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, UW police took 10 people to detox, seven of them were UW-Madison students, according to the release.

UWPD issued 12 underage drinking citations, and one person not affiliated with the UW was arrested for operating while intoxicated over the weekend, police said. Many of the alcohol-related incidents officers witnessed this weekend were extremely dangerous, and could have led to severe injury or death.
