Holy hijinks, Batman!

An Australian superhero wannabe is accused of stealing a costume from a thrift store wearing nothing but a thong.

Security footage shows the 35-year-old suspect entering the back of the shop in Newcastle before picking out a Batman mask and cape and walking out, Metro reported.

He's then seen strutting around in the stolen goods for about 40 minutes outside the shop.

"It was very unique," store owner Michelle Rowe told 7NEWS Sydney. "Most people will at least try to rob you with their clothes on, surely."

The man has since been arrested.
