School, church officials won’t comment on increased security

MADISON, Wis. -

Officials at a Madison Catholic school are refusing to talk about reports that they will be hiring armed security guards to patrol the school after a lockdown last week.

School and church officials at Our Lady Queen of Peace will not comment on a reported letter sent home to parents or new security efforts.

Concerns about heightened security come after a custody dispute with a man, whom Madison police identified as Christopher Swatzak, escalated last week, causing the lockdown.

Swatzak was in court Wednesday, accused of four felonies, including stalking and burglary.

A judge set his bail at $80,000, and he cannot have any contact with his wife or children. He also can’t go to several Catholic facilities, including Our Lady Queen of Peace school and parish, the Bishop O’Connor Center and St. Mary’s Hospital.
