A Samurai sword-wielding Mormon bishop was one of several neighbors who came to the aid of a woman being attacked in Utah.

Kent Hendrix, who is also a black belt in karate, told Salt Lake City TV station KSTU he didn't give it a second thought when his son pounded on his door Tuesday morning, telling him someone was being mugged outside their house.

"I threw my clothes on, grabbed my sword and out I came," Hendrix said.

He drew the 29-inch sword on the man and told him to get on the ground.

The man, identified by police as 37-year-old Grant Eggersten, took off barefoot down the street with Hendrix and the other neighbors in pursuit, The Associated Press reported.

Eggersten sped off in a car, but not before Hendrix grabbed his lip balm and memorized his license plate number.

"I yelled at him, 'I've got your DNA and I've got your license plate: You are so done,'" Hendrix told the AP.

Eggersten later surrendered to police and was booked on charges of robbery, attempted burglary, trespassing and violation of a stalking injunction.

Hendrix said it's the first time in his 30 years of practicing martial arts that he used the sword, which he keeps by his bed.

"Some people have bats they go to," he told the AP. "I have my sword."
