At least three homes were extensively damaged Tuesday when a tornado touched down in the Indianapolis area, officials told The Associated Press.

As the storm moved across the area, it also downed power lines and uprooted trees, the AP reported.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Ryan told the AP that the tornado struck Tuesday afternoon just southwest of Indianapolis. It was no longer on the ground.

He told the wire service that the Hendricks County Emergency Management Agency reported the damage to the homes.

Houses, trees and power lines were also damaged in Indianapolis’ southwest side, City Public Safety Director Troy Riggs told the AP.
