MADISON, Wis. -

A 55-year-old Madison man chased and brought down a man suspected of stealing from his car while he was shopping at Westgate Mall, according to a release from Madison police.

The man told police he was at the mall with his family Saturday afternoon to purchase art and school supplies for children in Nicaragua when he saw a man near his car and could see someone had been through it.

Police said the man won a foot chase and, with help from another shopper, held him down on front of T.J. Maxx.

Terrance A. Buchanan, 26, was arrested on suspicion of theft from a vehicle, possession of cocaine and on a parole violation.

The victim’s keys, phone and other items were recovered. His car had been left unlocked.
