Madison police said two 17-year-olds were arrested in connection to reports of a shot fired Wednesday evening near 124 Langdon St. in downtown Madison.

A 19-year-old told police he was robbed at gunpoint in the 100 block of West Gilman Street around 6:20 p.m., officials said. He said the robber took his backpack, wallet and keys.

Police believe someone who knew the man chased the robber on foot as he headed towards Langdon Street, according to a release. One round was fired in the 100 block of Langdon Street by one of the robbers.

"We’ve got witnesses that see this suspect, the one that fired the round, run towards Lake Mendota. Later we have a police dog that tracks and we recover the backpack that was stolen, the handgun and some other evidence," said Joel DeSpain, Madison police public information officer.

One of the robbers was detained by UW-Madison police officers at a bus stop on Observatory Drive, according to the release. A second robber was detained by MPD officers near the intersection of Gilman and Henry streets.

Ramar, A. Brown and Donte D. Hunter, both 17-years-old, have been arrested on tentative robbery charges in connection to the incident.

Detectives said the armed robbery was not random and that the robbers targeted a specific person.

Police said there is not currently an active shooter situation. No injuries have been reported.

Police were searching for a black man wearing dark clothing, a black-and-white baseball cap, black jacket, carrying a dark backpack.

Police thought one of them may be inside the Madison College building on North Carroll Street but cleared the lockdown around 7:30 p.m.

Madison College sent an emergency notice telling students and staff to stay in classrooms and avoid the downtown building.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department sent out alerts advising students and people in the area to stay inside but the shelter in place was lifted just before 9 p.m. UW police did ask students to avoid the area long the lake from Lake Street to the Lakeshore dorms.

A Memorial Union staff member said the building was in lockdown for part of the search.
