Oldest living American turns 115 years old

America's oldest living person is celebrating her 115 birthday today.

Jeralean Talley, who is from the Detroit area, was born in 1899, according to The Associated Press. She still enjoys several activities and gets around mostly on her own, only needing a little help from a walker.

As for her secret to living such a long life, Talley told the Detroit Free Press, "It's all in the good Lord's hands."

The Gerontology Research Group verified Talley's age using census data.

116-year-old Japan resident Misao Okawa, tops the list as the world's oldest person.
