A man who fled a Wisconsin State Patrol officer abandoned his car with a 3-year-old special-needs child in the back seat before it crashed into a garage door, according to a release from the State Patrol.
Officers said the car was spotted at County Road BB and Highway 51 in Dane County at 5:35 p.m. on Thursday with multiple equipment violations.
The drivers led the officer on a short pursuit before abandoning the still-moving car.
The driver, Raymond J. Lizardi-Lopez, 20, with a last known address in Madison, fled into an apartment building where he was later taken into custody, officers said.
The car crashed into the garage door of the apartment building, officers said. The child was not injured, and was cared for until the child’s mother was contacted.
Lizardi-Lopez was arrested on suspicion of eluding an officer, reckless endangerment of safety, obstructing/resisting an officer, child neglect and hit-and-run.
