9 cars burglarized on Middleton's north side

MIDDLETON, Wis. -

Middleton police are telling residents to lock their doors and report anything suspicious after reports of car break-ins Sunday night.

Middleton Police Department Sgt. Steve Britt said theft from vehicles comes in streaks.

Over the course of a year, an average of two cars are burglarized each night.

Based on an annual average they have about two car thefts a night said Britt.

Britt said thieves look for unlocked cars. Sunday night they went up and down a couple of streets.

The thieves hit the north side of Middleton in the Valley Ridge, South Ridge, North Lake and Orchid Heights neighborhoods, said Britt.

Britt said Sunday nine thefts from cars and one entry into an unlocked garage were reported.

Britt said in addition to loose change being reported stolen from all of the vehicles, an iPod, perfume, and a Coach purse were reported stolen.

Britt said the Coach purse was found at another location with all of the contents except the wallet.

Police said they determined the thefts happened between 11 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday.

Britt said one of the callers reported seeing three individuals on a neighbor’s driveway but didn’t call the police.

Officials say if anyone who sees anything suspicious should call police, and all drivers should be sure to lock their car doors.
